East Kilbride’s council run car parks could end on October 5. A report set to go before the council’s community and enterprise resources committee yesterday (Tuesday, September 15) will recommend reintroducing the charges that have been waived since the coronavirus lockdown was introduced in March.Transport infrastructure consultants SYSTRA have carried out a review of parking demand in Hamilton town centre which found “no specific evidence” that free parking increases footfall.Charges would be reinstated as they were before lockdown with no new increases proposed.
Councillors had previously complained that the existing parking structure could be “seen as a barrier” to visiting town centres.
