The Ligue 1 is set to start their 2020/21 season on August 22, potentially before the end of the current Premier League term.

French footballing authorities scrapped their season at the end of April, awarding PSG the title and relegating Amiens and Toulouse, instead of null and voiding the standings.

That means that the Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 can begin at a regular time, unlike leagues in other European countries which are set to play well into the summer.

Following discussions with broadcasting companies, the date has been set on August 22 for Ligue 1 to get the new season underway, with the second tier kicking off the next day on the 23rd.
