George Kerevan, a veteran Nationalist who served at Westminster for two years, announced his decision to join the Alba Party in a statement today.
It comes after two serving MPs quit Nicola Sturgeon's party over the weekend and rumours continue about other SNP members who could still deflect.
Salmond launched his new party last week in a move that stunned the Scottish political world. It is not contesting constituency seats at May's Holyrood election and is instead appealing for independence supporters to back it on the list vote.Kerevan, a former senior editor at The Scotsman, was elected MP for East Lothian in 2015 but lost the seat to Labour two years later.The SNP won back the seat in 2019 when Kenny MacAskill was elected.
