Patrick Harvie said the former first minister was a "discredited figure" and had nothing to say on the big issues facing Scotland such as tacking inequality and the climate emergency.
The Greens are pro-independence but insist they are not in a race for list votes with Salmond's newly formed Alba Party. A recent Panelbase poll put the environmentalists on eight per cent on the list vote, up two per cent, with Alba on six per cent - meaning both could return several MSPs.
Harvie spoke to the Record yesterday as he unveiled the Greens pledge to "decarbonise" Scotland's railway and create 16,000 jobs in the process.The party claims the new roles would be created as part of a national drive to electrify all lines on the Scottish network as well.
