Fire crews called to blaze at Salford student accommodation block

Fire crews were called to a blaze at a student accommodation block in Salford in the early hours of this morning. Four fire engines were scrambled to the Tramways student accommodation hall in Frederick Road at around 12.30am on Wednesday, May 6.

Crews from Broughton, Salford, Manchester Central and Agecroft were sent to help tackle the blaze. The fire is believed to have started inside the kitchen of one of the flats.

Crews left the scene after one and a half hours. A witness who lives at the accommodation said: “A bottom floor block was set ablaze and residents were unable to return to their rooms until 5am. “According to some students the entire oven had to be stripped from the kitchen by the fire service to stop the flames.” A
