Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar has swapped the goalposts for the boardroom since retiring in 2011. Currently chief executive at his first club AFC Ajax, he has overseen the signing of many of the club’s star players.
Speculation has surrounded Van der Sar of late, indicating he could be a potential target for a director of football role at United.
The Dutchman has primarily signed young players for Ajax – in keeping with the club’s philosophy – therefore it would be interesting to see what sort of similar approach he could employ at Old Trafford.
Under Van der Sar, Ajax’s transfer business has focused on the acquisition of young players for small fees in comparison to Premier League prices.
