A Dumfriesshire man is officially Britain’s fittest farmer. Twenty-eight-year-old John Carlisle was the winner of the men’s under-40s title in the fiercely-contested Farmers Weekly event.
He said: “I’m absolutely over the moon. It’s been a great competition and it’s only getting stronger every year.” Finalists travelled from all corners of the UK to compete for three titles at the Farm Fitness site in Great Dunnow, Essex.
The competition was established as a fun way of sparking a vital discussion about the physical and mental health of the nation’s farmers.
They were put through their paces at three regional qualifier events designed to test speed, strength and stamina, before the finalists battled it out.
