Police said the youth had gone for a swim in the Blue Lagoon, in Belmont, near Bolton - officially known as Ward's Reservoir - on Saturday 'in a bid to cool off'.
Officers said a 'concerned member of the public' then noticed the teenager had 'got into difficulty'. The bystander then 'very bravely dragged him from the water to safety' before calling the emergency services for help, reports Lancs Live.
