An "idiotic" driver has been jailed for taking a family to Asda in a second-hand ambulance that had its emergency lights flashing.

Blessing Mukaukirwa, 32, was caught driving the previously used emergency vehicle into the supermarket's car park in Harpurhey, Manchester, at about 10pm on Wednesday.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said he was disqualified from driving and the ambulance's blue lights were flashing when it pulled in.

Officers watched as Mukaukirwa and a family climbed out of the vehicle and walked into the supermarket to do their shopping, the Manchester Evening News reports.
