The warning comes as a Scottish dog rescue charity joined calls for the UK Government to make pet theft a specific criminal offence with cases “spiralling” during lockdown.Perth Abandoned Dogs Society (PADS) chair Alison Kennedy feels the theft of a pet is currently being considered “on par with the theft of a mobile phone or handbag”.
Cops in Suffolk, where the white chalk first appeared, have urged residents to be "vigilant" as they explore the possible links between the marks and dog thefts, the Mirror reports.
