direct to your inboxThe demolition of two of Oldham’s iconic tower blocks is set to start next spring, housing chiefs have revealed.Housing association First Choice Homes Oldham has announced it has appointed local specialists, D Hughes Demolition & Excavation Ltd, to knock down Crossbank House and Summervale House.First Choice says the demolition of the two blocks, which stand at the so-called ‘gateway’ to the town at the junction of Manchester Street and Oldham Way, is the first ‘important step’ in its plans to transform the area.Residents of more than 240 properties of the two 1970s blocks were moved out by the end of April, and they have since been standing empty.The plans, which were approved by Oldham council in September, are part of.
