Activists are planning ‘anti-tourism’ protests on a popular Spanish holiday island later this month. A group called Prou Eivissa (Enough Ibiza) is calling for restrictions to be imposed on tourism in Ibiza.
The protests are set to take place on May 24, coinciding with half term holidays for many UK families. It comes as similar protests are planned on neighbouring island Majorca on Monday, May 27 and follows demonstrations in the Canary Islands in April.
In a statement Prou Eivissa said that “Ibiza cannot take anymore” and added that it was raising awareness of the “negative impacts of uncontrolled tourism”.
The island is known as a party destination, with thousands of tourists descending upon its famous bars and clubs every summer.
