After Dame Deborah James was told by doctors that she was in the final stages of her life, one of her final wishes was to die at her parents' bungalow in Woking.The podcaster passed away at age 40 on Tuesday, 28 June, after a well-documented journey with bowel cancer over the past five years, and explained why she moved out of her home in central London during her final appearance on her BBC Podcast, You Me and the Big C. “It's kind of where I've always wanted to die, weirdly," she said. I think I always knew I didn't want to be at my London home. It doesn't feel right to me." A deciding factor in her decision to move to Woking for her end of life care was that she didn't want to give her kids negative memories of their family home in London, and that she wouldn't be able to relax there. “There's nothing I can describe that feels relaxing in that capacity.
Don't get me wrong, it's a lovely place but I also think it's not right for me but it means the kids can go back there and they don't have those medical equipment scars faced everywhere,” she shared.
Deborah added: “It can continue to be their home without those memories, which might be a good thing.” In a statement announcing her death, her family said: "We are deeply saddened to announce the death of Dame Deborah James; the most amazing wife, daughter, sister, mummy.
