There was an utterly predictable inevitability in Manchester United's tepid performance in the Manchester derby. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had somehow survived the Liverpool debacle to remain in charge against Tottenham and Atalanta and, while United looked improved against the former, the Norwegian ultimately had Cristiano Ronaldo to thank for the draw in Italy.
There was nothing that Ronaldo could do to save United against Manchester City on Saturday afternoon, though. United found themselves two goals down at the break at Old Trafford after conceding a second goal just before half-time.
Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw were caught out in a moment of amateurish hesitation for that effort, summing up another dire display from the pair.
