Compared to previous years, the Premier League winter transfer window was very quiet this January. Of the traditional 'Big Six' clubs, only Arsenal were active in the market ahead of its final day, moving to secure the signature of Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid Manchester United did bring in young winger Amad Diallo, however his was a transfer arranged in the summer.
Rumours were rife suggesting that United, Chelsea and Liverpool all desired a new central defender. And on Deadline Day, Liverpool duly moved, some Michael Edwards hocus pocus bringing in Preston North End’s Ben Davies on a permanent transfer and Schalke's Ozan Kabak on a loan deal.
