Luiz captained a much-changed Arsenal side with Mikel Arteta making nine swaps from the team that were knocked out of the Europa League last week.
He was partnered by Pablo Mari in the centre of defence while the likes of Joe Willock, Eddie Nketiah and Reiss Nelson also started.
And Luiz revealed that he told his young team-mates just how big the opportunity was on the south coast. Arsenal skipper Luiz said: "I think it is important to do the job we are doing every single day, since Mikel came we have done well.
