Darts hero James Wade has opened up about his recent health scare which left him in a German hospital. Speaking exclusively to Daily Star Sport , as part of his new ‘View from the Oche’ column, the world number five has recalled the 'unbearable' pain he felt while in action at the European Open earlier this month.

After seeking medical attention, he was advised to immediately withdraw from the tournament and go straight to hospital, where he spent three days before eventually being allowed to return home to be with his pregnant wife and young son.

After missing last week’s Premier League night in Sheffield as he recuperated at home, Wade will be back in action tonight as the darting roadshow hits the O2 in London, where he is due to face Peter Wright in the quarter-finals.

Ahead of his return to the stage, The Machine has recounted the nightmare experience he endured in Germany."During my quarter-final it became unbearable," said Wade. "Although I managed to continue and win, I had to consult paramedics after the match and they strongly advised me to concede my next match and go straight to hospital."I had a high heart rate and blood pressure, stomach pain, nausea and dizziness so was in quite a state.
