Gerwyn Price blew the race for fourth spot in the Premier League wide open by winning the night in Sheffield. The Iceman has been out of sorts for much of the campaign but found form just in the nick of time in the Steel City.
Price defeated Gary Anderson and Joe Cullen to book a final against Michael van Gerwen.Despite playing catch-up for the majority of the final, he took a 5-4 lead before Van Gerwen won the 10th leg to set up a tense decider.
But Price had the darts and made them count to seal only his second night win of the season and his first for 11 weeks, since he memorably hit two nine-darters in one evening in Belfast. The win left him just two points behind Peter Wright in the all-important fourth spot with two weeks of the regular season remaining.
Next week, at London’s O2, Price faces leader Jonny Clayton in the first match of the night and a win would pile the pressure on the struggling Wright, who suffered another quarter-final defeat in Sheffield, losing 6-1 to Van Gerwen.“If I win next week, I’m back in the play-offs," Price said. "Then it doesn’t matter, one, two, three, four, as long as I’m there, I’m happy.
