Formula 1 star Daniel Ricciardo has defended the X-rated message inscribed on his helmet at the Monaco Grand Prix, revealing it was simply there to ‘pump himself up’.

The Australian had the letters FEA written on the back of his helmet, which represents ‘F*** Em All’. It sent Twitter and Reddit users into a social media frenzy, with many believing it was a response to his critics after a brutal year with McLaren so far.

However, Ricciardo refuted such suggestions and revealed it was a personal mantra he uses to psyche himself up. It has been a bitterly disappointing campaign for the 32-year-old, with fans and pundits alike beginning to criticise him. “I put it on my [Red Bull Racing] helmet in 2018 as well,” Ricciardo told Fox Sports. “I like to use acronyms to pump me up.
