Scots foster mum who beat children in her care with wooden spoons and tied them to a bed avoided a prison sentence. Elspeth Margaret Cromar was found guilty of assaulting three children at her former home in Craigmount, Edinburgh.
The 72-year-old former pub landlady also struck them with a slipper and shut them in a cupboard. The assaults took place between 1992 and 1995 but went unreported until one of the victims bravely came forward and contacted the Scottish Child Abuse Tribunal for advice.
They were reported to the police in April 2017, and Cromar was subsequently charged six months later. Her victims described her as a "cruel monster" who "seemed to enjoy" the regular beatings she dished out to the children.
