Patrice Evra has revealed how Cristiano Ronaldo was on the verge of a sensational return to Manchester United from Real Madrid in 2012.

But the stunning £160m deal collapsed when it emerged Sir Alex Ferguson was poised to retire as United boss less than 12 months later.
