telegraph.co.ukThe last time I went into a Debenhams store - a visit to the Oxford Street flagship late last year - it was easy to see why it was failing to draw shoppers.
The merchandising was a mess, with small appliance shelves in disarray and not a single member of staff in sight to help me.
It was the same in home furnishings - I even saw a damaged product that hadn’t been cleared away. It seemed like staff, as well as management, had more or less given up on trying to generate any sales.
A colleague had a similar experience, calling it “deserted and dusty”. She likened the store to the fictional Grace Brothers in '70s sitcom Are You Being Served?
