Contingency plans have been drawn up to help the country cope if the spread of coronavirus across the UK leads to panic-buying in the shops.
UK supermarkets have put together 'feed the nation' plans in a bid to ensure good supplies are not interrupted if the coronavirus outbreak suddenly escalates.
The strategy would see supermarkets work with suppliers to reduce the variety of food available. Instead, they would focus on making sure that staple foods and essentials remained in good supply, the Guardian reports .
It comes as Boris Johnson prepares to unveil 'battle plans' for tackling a potential coronavirus outbreak, which will include measures to limit it spreading in crowds and affecting elderly and vulnerable people.
