Coronavirus: 'Dangerous' state-backed hacker networks exploting crisis to steal data

Sophisticated networks of hackers are exploiting the coronavirus crisis, the government has warned. First Secretary of State Dominic Raab warned those behind an uptick in phishing and scam attacks are "particularly dangerous and venal." And he said many are linked to state backed agencies.

Mr Raab said: "Whilst the vast majority of individuals and countries have come together and rallied to this international mission to defeat coronavirus, there will always be some who seek to exploit a crisis for their own criminal and hostile ends." He added: "We know that cybercriminals and other malicious groups are targeting individuals, businesses and other organisations by deploying Covid-19 related scams and phishing emails."
