Coronavirus cases have soared in three areas, with infections spiking in people aged 30 to 49 years old. The increase in the number of new Covid-19 cases was particularly high in London, East of England and South East regions.
Smaller increases were seen in other regions, Public Health England said in its weekly national Influenza and Covid-19 surveillance report.
