Coronavirus: Britain has 'just 24 hours' to save its pubs with months of closures ahead

Without urgent action thousands of pubs and as many as a million bar jobs could be lost as a result of coronavirus. Britain's biggest pub and restaurant owners have warned sales are "getting worse by the day" as the impact of advice to stay home and avoid public spaces kicks in.

Marston's, which runs 1,400 pubs across the country; Mitchells & Butlers, the owner of Toby Carvery and All Bar One; and Revolution Bars all issued warnings about trading yesterday.

Kate Nicholls, chief executive of pub and restaurant body UK Hospitality, said: "Our analysis suggests in excess of 1million jobs are now on the line. "Job cuts are extraordinarily deep and they are happening now – today and tomorrow, and are snowballing.
