Chelsea are still pushing to land Napoli forward Dries Mertens on a free transfer, according to reports in Italy. The Blues were keen on signing the Belgium international in the January transfer window and offered a small fee to get him.
Mertens is out of contract this summer but the Serie A side were not keen to let him leave midway through the current season.
According to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio the Blues are trying to convince the player to move to Stamford Bridge at the end of the current campaign. “Chelsea have wanted Dries Mertens since January,” he told Sky Sports. “In January, they offered €10m despite his contract ending in June.
