Tony Adams has opened up on how he tried to console David Beckham after his infamous red card against Argentina at the 1998 World Cup, recalling how the England icon responded to his attempt to make light of the situation.
Beckham was sent off early in the second-half of England's last 16 clash with Argentina for lashing out at Diego Simeone, and the Three Lions crashed out of the tournament on penalties after drawing 2-2.
Beckham faced villain treatment for some months in England following the incident and Adams recalled how he was visibly distraught after the match. "He was really upset, he was sad and he was shedding a tear and I thought, 'Wow!'.
