Chaka Khan Issues Apology Over 'Greatest Singers' List Comments; Says She Felt Pressured Into Answering Questions About It

Chaka Khan is backtracking on her comments over Rolling Stone‘s Greatest Singers list and apologizing. The 69-year-old legendary songstress issued an apology on social media over the weekend and clarifying her stance on the list. For context, Chaka was listed at #29 out of 200 singers, but did not top Adele, Beyonce or Mariah Carey. Barbra Streisand, Cher, nor Celine Dion weren’t even on the list.

In her apology, she also mentioned how she was cornered into answering the question, as well. “Recently, I was asked about a list of the ‘greatest singers of all time’ and instead of questioning the need for such a list, I was pitted against other artists and I took the bait,” she shared on Instagram. “As artists, we are unfairly put into ‘boxes’, ‘categories’ or on ‘lists.’ Being an artist or musician is not a competition.

It’s a gift, for which I am truly grateful.” Chaka went on, saying, “It was not my intention to cause pain or upset anyone.
