Tameside say there's been an increase in thefts across the borough and surrounding areas recently. Thieves are parking next to the cars they're targeting, then using a jack to lift up the wheel arch before cutting out the catalytic converters using cordless power tools.Police shared this poster on Facebook advising car owners on how to protect against thefts:Catalytic converters are often targeted by thieves because of the precious metals they contain - such as platinum, palladium and rhodium.The post on the GMP North and East Facebook page said: "GMP Tameside North & East Teams - would like to make our local communities aware that there has been an increase in theft of Catalytic Converters within the Tameside and surrounding GMP areas.
