Perth and Kinross has spoken out about the emotional and financial toll of COVID-19 on staff, residents and relatives. Balhouisie Care Group revealed the pandemic has created extra business costs of £500,000, but warned the emotional impact has been just as great and that dealing with the coronavirus will be the “new normal”.
Staff have reported suffering from anxiety, stress and night terrors, and say they are frustrated at a “general lack of recognition for the care sector”.
Balhousie, which has 10 care homes across Perth and Kinross, has lost 41 residents to COVID and seen 306 positive cases among residents and staff.
