Brits are being urged not to travel unless 'absolutely necessary' during the Christmas period. Transport bosses are issuing clear messaging telling people not to travel unless they absolutely have to as the government tightens up rules around seeing family and friends next week.
The tone is set to change to "Don't travel unless you absolutely have to." Network Rail chairman Sir Peter Hendy yesterday said: "I think one ought to say be careful, one ought to say stay local." He told MPs people also must make sure they've booked their transport in advance, or face being turned away, adding: "But the most important part of the message is book public transport early."
