Brits set to bask in St Patrick's Day heatwave with mercury topping 19C this week

temperatures reaching 19C.A 700 mile-wide African heat burst which will blow to Britain via the continent will see us basking in temperatures hotter than Rome.The early spring warm-up is due tomorrow when it will hit 16C.

On Wednesday it will creep up to 18C or 19C and the temperature will remain in the high teens for St Patrick’s Day parties on Thursday and into the weekend.Temperatures will be well above 11C average March highs, and warmer than 15C Rome.The Met Office forecasts dry skies today and tomorrow, then sunshine and clear skies for most parts after Wednesday’s showers.Chilly air could return later in the weekend, but the Met Office said more warm weather is ahead for the run-up to Easter.Ex-BBC and Met Office forecaster John Hammond of weathertrending said: “Spring will be in the air, with a gentle breeze from the warming continent and temperatures rising through the teens.“Wet weather will give way to sunshine, with a drier and warmer trend through mid-March.”A Met Office forecaster said: “Monday’s sunny spells in the South will see temperatures a little above average.

Tuesday will be dry in the South-East, with the North-West’s rain spreading on Wednesday.“But it will be fine and sunny from Thursday for the UK.
