Sun-seeking Brits flying out to Spain are being stung by a 'Covid tax' slapped on drinks 'illegally' by bar owners, it has been claimed.

Bars across the European holiday hotspot are reportedly charging up to €1 per table and sometimes €1 more per drink, while some nightspots have also upped their entrance fees.

And the sun-soaked resorts are far from what keen holidaymakers remember - with many bars closing at 10pm, and all nightclubs in the likes of 18-30 favourite Magaluf closed.

A consumer rights group has claimed the extra charge - to help proprietors afford PPE for staff - is against the law, according to The Sun.
