Manchester United legend Sir Bobby Charlton. Jack Charlton, Martin Peters, Ray Wilson and more recently Nobby Stiles have all passed away following brain injury diseases over the past few years.

As well as the creation of the PFA taskforce, Sir Geoff Hurst is supporting a ban on children heading footballs, and the Daily Mail has launched a campaign led by Chris Sutton - whose father Mike, a former footballer, is battling dementia - calling for immediate action on the issue and includes a limit on heading at all levels of the game.

Former England striker Alan Shearer also presented a 2017 documentary which investigated the link between dementia and football and the potential brain damage caused by heading balls.
