De Bruyne was handed the captain's armband prior to kick-off and made a leader's impact early on. He fired an effort through the legs of Harry Maguire and past David de Gea to hand the Blues the advantage.
United responded well to going behind with Fred being denied by a sharp Ederson stop. Just minutes later the visitors notched the equaliser thanks to former City man Jadon Sancho.
