BBC presenter dies aged 72 from short illness weeks after leaving show

BBC Radio Solent presenter Richard Cartridge has died at the age of 72 following a short illness, Radio Solent has confirmed.

The south coast radio station announced the news on social media.The Radio Solent account tweeted: "We are deeply sad to announce that our dear friend Richard Cartridge has passed away following a short illness."Richard entertained the south on-air for over 46 years.

Thank you Rich."Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. He will be deeply missed."The 72-year-old started working at BBC Radio Solent in the 1970s and retired in June of this year.He left the station briefly after he was included in a cull of presenters, but brought back after public demand which was supported by a number of local.
