The BBC and the government have made a mutual decision to extend the free TV licence for over-75s amid the coronavirus outbreak.
As the UK death toll reached 35 on Sunday, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said over-70s could be told to stay at home for up to four months within the “coming weeks”.
While Boris Johnson is yet to reveal the plan over lengthy household isolation for the elderly following a Cobra meeting this afternoon, the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport along with the broadcaster have said the change to the TV licence will now not come into force until August.
