B&M Bargains shuts 49 stores across the UK due to coronavirus crisis

Retailer B&M has announced the closure of 49 of its outlets due to the coronavirus pandemic. The budget retailer says it will be temporarily closing some of its smaller branches and those located within shopping centres.

Staff at the affected outlets will have their roles furloughed under the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme. Meanwhile branches of frozen food grocer Heron Foods, which is owned by B&M, will operate as normal.

It comes after the retailer reviewed it's trading operations this week after assessing footfall and the impact of the Government sanctioned closure of non-essential shops.
