Kilmarnock ICU nurse – who has twice recovered from a rare brain condition – is raising awareness ahead of special light-up events next week.Pauline Murray has twice battled encephalitis, which can be life-threatening, and is warning other people to be aware of the symptoms which often go unnoticed and can lead to a misdiagnosis.The 52-year-old is sharing her story ahead of World Encephalitis Day on Monday which will see Kilmarnock's Palace Theatre and the visitor centre at Dean Castle Country Park lit up red.
Encephalitis is a rare but serious condition in which the brain becomes inflamed and swollen and is caused by either a viral infection, bacterial infection or an autoimmune attack.It can be life-threatening and requires urgent.
