Ayrshire in a post-Christmas surge.The number of people being diagnosed with Covid has gone up by 30 per cent since Boxing Day last year, with cases rising at a rate of around 100 per week.On December 26 the number of positive cases recorded since the pandemic began was 8,771 by January 14 that number had risen to 11,560 - a total of 2,958 new cases.Boxing Day was the first day of a Tier 4 national lockdown, with tougher measures brought in on January 5 to deal with a faster spreading new variant of COVID-19.The huge spike is putting pressure on Ayrshire's hospitals with beds in other wards having to be freed up to treat Covid patients.It has been revealed today that 208 are in hospital with confirmed COVID-19 — an increase of 69 since.
