Twenty police officers were injured, including two who were taken to hospital after suffering broken ribs and a broken arm, when crowds descended on a police station, clashing with officers and setting police vehicles alight.
Avon and Somerset Police said what started as a peaceful demonstration had been "hijacked by extremists". Police said six people had been detained for violent disorder and a seventh was being held for possession of an offensive weapon.
