Arsenal may have got their first win since the Premier League restart against Southampton on Thursday evening, but the team’s flaws are no less glaring.
Much as Mikel Arteta needs a rebuild this summer, he could find himself working with limited resources. There are also big question marks over several players’ futures, not least Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Mesut Ozil and Matteo Guendouzi.
Given the financial implications of the coronavirus crisis and Arsenal ’s extended spell outside of the Champions League, it’s going to take a combination of masterful negotiating, clever budgeting and joined-up thinking to make the improvements that Arteta so desperately needs.
