Andy Murray failed to take advantage of Novak Djokovic's deportation saga as he crashed out of the Australia Open in the second round. The 34-year-old British No.3 was smashed 3-0 by Japan's Taro Daniel on day four of the grand slam tournament in Melbourne.
Murray had taken five sets to beat his first-round opponent Nikoloz Basilashvili earlier this week. But he was powerless to stop world No.120 Daniel, with the 28-year-old progressing through to the third round of a grand slam for the first time in his career.Daniel, a Japanese qualifier, dominated throughout to claim a comfortable 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 straight sets victory against the five-time Australian Open finalist.
It simply wasn't to be for Murray, who defied pre-tournament expectations to reach the second round Down Under for the first time since 2017, when he progressed through to the fourth round.
Speaking after the match, Daniel said: "It's amazing, winning a match like this in front of so many people. It's unbelievable, thank you."It was an amazing level from me.
