A man has been jailed for 13 months after a late-night confrontation with innocent strangers in Hamilton.The commotion ended with Edward Burns spitting at one police officer and biting another.Burns, 35, a prisoner, was sentenced at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Friday.He admitted shouting threats and abuse, brandishing a hammer at Graham Shields and punching Mr Shields’s partner, Caitlin Stewart.Burns also admitted two counts of police assault.Neil Thomson, prosecuting, said the disturbance happened in Gordon Road and Farm Road in the early hours of December 2.Mr Shields heard a voice outside his home and went to investigate.He found Burns who ran off.
