A woman who was shot by police in a street in Liverpool is in hospital fighting for her life. The woman, in her 50s, has undergone surgery and is in a critical condition after an incident in Toxteth yesterday.
Merseyside Police were called to reports of a person with a knife but due to their involvement in her injury, the Independent Office for Police Conduct have taken over the investigation.
On Friday afternoon, the IOPC said the woman had been struck by one bullet in her lower abdomen. Police are still looking for her next of kin, the Liverpool Echo reports.
The two police officers involved in the shooting incident, including the officer whose bullet hit her, have given initial accounts to watchdog investigators.
