Manchester United were told to sign their derby day tormentor Joao Cancelo in 2016, when he was still at Valencia. Cancelo is now one of the most important players in Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side and he created both goals in the routine 2-0 win at Old Trafford, taking his tally of assists this season to five.
But things could have worked out differently had United acted on the recommendation of Phil Neville. The former Old Trafford favourite worked with Cancelo while a coach at Valencia, first under Nuno Espirito Santo and then with his brother Gary, who managed the Spanish giants from December 2015 to March 2016.
