The fourth series of The Crown premiered on Netflix on Sunday, released to a public that couldn’t have been more primed to binge watch the not-so-distant period drama.
Before anyone pressed play on the first episode, this was already known as the Diana series - the one in which Charles would meet a teenage Diana Spencer, take her for his bride, and witness her popularity grow until it eclipsed, for a time, that enjoyed by the Queen.And thanks to a convergence of fashion trends and release dates, I’d wager that a good number of women who sat down for a Crown-athon on Sunday did so wearing the sort of Laura Ashley dresses, massive-collar shirts and motif jumpers favoured by Diana herself.
