Jose Mourinho was sacked as Manchester United manager on 18 December 2018 — exactly three years ago today (Saturday). That decision came after months of poor results, but Mourinho's nadir was a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool and he was sacked two days after that loss.
Three years on and Mourinho actually remains the last manager to win silverware at Old Trafford. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was relieved of his duties last month and the Norwegian failed to deliver a trophy, despite being heavily backed in the transfer market and reaching the 2021 Europa League final.
Solskjaer left behind a world-class squad whereas the team that he inherited from Mourinho certainly needed to be addressed.
