More than 5.9 million people are currently claiming Universal Credit and Jobseeker's Allowance, benefits designed to help support those out of work or on a low income cover the costs of daily living.
However, the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) recently introduced changes to the taper rate rule and work allowance which now means that an estimated 500,000 households across the UK - some 600,000 people - could be eligible to claim Universal Credit to help top-up their monthly finances.
